About Us

Drs. Joseph and Claire Pizzimenti have a combined 43 years of optometric experience. They have successfully educated optometry students, residents and colleagues. They have the knowledge, experience and expertise to prepare you for Optometry Board Certification.

Dr. Joseph J. Pizzimenti graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1989. Following graduation, Dr. Pizzimenti completed a residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation and Ocular Disease at the University of Houston (1989-1990). In 1990, he established Pizzimenti Eye Center in Elmwood Park, IL, specializing in Primary Care Optometry, Ocular Disease, and Low Vision Rehabilitation.

Dr. Pizzimenti accepted a full-time faculty position at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Optometry in 1995 and returned to his love of clinical education. He is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Interdisciplinary Clinical Education at the College, collaborating with NSU's Departments of Osteopathic Medicine, Allied Health and Nursing, and Pharmacology.

Dr. Pizzimenti educates students and residents and provides care for patients at The NSU College of Optometry Eye Care Institute (TECI). He established a Diabetes and Retina Service at TECI, where he provides advanced ophthalmic care.

Dr. Pizzimenti has published numerous articles in Pub Med cited and other peer-reviewed journals, frequently collaborating with other health care disciplines. He has participated in several funded clinical research studies and recently co-authored a chapter on Diabetes and Eye Disease in a textbook entitled Diabetes in Black America: Public Health and Clinical Solutions to a National Crisis.

An internationally renowned speaker on Primary Eye Care, Ocular Disease, and Low Vision Rehabilitation, Dr. Pizzimenti has lectured throughout the United States, Canada, Israel, and Europe. In 2006, he was awarded a Fellowship from the World Council of Optometry. This Fellowship included a six-month project in which he taught optometry students, practicing optometrists, and ophthalmologists at the University of Poznan Medical School in Poznan, Poland.

 

Dr. Claire Pizzimenti graduated in 1990 from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She completed her residency in hospital-based/rehabilitative optometry at the West Side VAMC in Chicago, IL in 1991, and . continued there as an Attending Optometrist until 1995.

After relocating to Florida with her husband, Joe, Dr. Pizzimenti accepted an appointment as Attending Optometrist at the West Palm Beach VAMC, where she provided patient care for 5 years. Between 2000-2005, Dr. Pizzimenti worked at a large ophthalmology practice in Boca Raton, FL.

Throughout her career, Dr. Pizzimenti has trained both optometry students and residents. She has published several papers in Pub Med journals such as Optometry and Vision Science, Archives of Ophthalmology and The Journal of the American Academy of Optometry. She was co-principal investigator for a Veteran's Administration funded research grant. In 1998, Dr. Pizzimenti authored a textbook chapter entitled Ocular Prosthetics in Clinical Optometric Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

In addition to caring for the couple's three children, Dr. Pizzimenti currently provides vision screenings for private schools in Palm Beach County, as well as Head Start and other programs.
